The scientific activity of the “UMR” Geographie-cités is organized around key themes, transverse subjects and workshops: Public Space, Gender, FMR (flows, matrices, networks). Some thematic axes, such as those about towns, epistemology and history of geography, modelling in space and time, exist since the creation of the Unit. Others have been defined more recently. This is the case for questions about reorganizations and integration at the European level, for a multiscalar approach of the relations between social and spatial interactions, and for land planning.

Axes and transversal approaches are worked at collectively and associate several research groups. These groups are often organized around research programs that engage the Unit in national, European and international networks.

The Ph. D most often pertain to several research axes, and help the renewal of the research activities of the UMR.
