Who we are

Géographie-Cités Lab is a research unit endorsed by several French academic institutions who support it. It has four main umbrellas: The French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), the University Panthéon-Sorbonne, the University of Paris (formerly Paris Diderot) and the School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences / École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS).

It brings together more than sixty professors-researchers, researchers, engineers, technicians and nearly eighty doctoral students. Géographie-Cités Lab combines theoretical and epistemological approaches, quantitative and qualitative methods, empirical work and comparative researches. On this common basis, each of the three UMR teams, C.R.I.A., E.H.GO and P.A.R.I.S, develops their own research themes.

Five thematics called “transversalities” structure the inter-team research activities:

  • Transversality 1: Mobility and territories: towards a relational approach to space
  • Transversality 2: Stability and fluidity of geographical objects
  • Transversality 3: Words and concepts: uses, circulations and contexts
  • Transversality 4: Urban fabrics: processes, actors, practices
  • Transversality 5: Data and protocols in the digital humanities
